This op-ed piece by James Robert Ross makes a persuasive case for marriage being preferable to cohabiting. Ross "is a licensed marriage and family therapist" according to the brief biography at the end of the article.

I agree with James Robert Ross, who is a "licensed marriage and family therapist" according to the article. Based on cohabiting couples and married couples I know, as well as my personal morals and observations, l agree with James Robert Ross, who is a "licensed marriage and family therapist" according to the brief bio at the end of the article.
Though I have seen some research that supports this, I would love for him to have taken space to cite the specific sources for the research he mentioned.
I hope you will forgive me for linking to my own article, Sexual Abstinence Until Marriage: The Right Thing (Revised July 7, 2010)

Excellent point, mstanley2265.
We humans far too often make decisions based on the emotions of the moment rather than considering logically the effects of our impulsive emotional decision(s).

Sometimes it's more than emotion, it's thinking....this is what I need to do because ....then they thunk themselves into marriage and out of it, into a a roommate and out of it...vicious cycle. Sometimes, I've had the thought that arranged marriages are a good idea...if you wound up with the right person.

Though I personally oppose "arranged marriages," mstanley, I agree that they do have merits.
Sometimes outsiders can be more objective and see things more clearly. If prospective couples listened attentively to the views of friends and relatives, maybe some of the merits of "arranged marriages" could occur in our current system.
Thanks for your insights!
